Member-only story
I started the day off like any other day. Hot coffee, billowing with steam from the rim of the mug. The morning was a little cool as it was late spring. The grass had crystal droplets of dew that glistened in the morning fresh sunshine.
This was the day. I am going to ride my best ride yet. I was so excited. When I was young I would ride all day into the dusk only to rise again the next day and do it all over again. I am now able to start bringing those days back.
My bike. Santa Cruz Superlight. 2010, I like my rides retro. The earthy green color, super knobby tires, 9 speed DH bike. Such a good ride. My version of heaven. Every time I get on this bike I feel at home. Today is going to be a good day.
The trail packed forest that I ride in is about a 15-minute drive away. Just enough to have another coffee on the road and enjoy my music enough to keep the energy flowing through me. I like my music fast and hard. Loud and windows down.
The forest is just up the hill. I feel it, the excitement. My first real good downhill/cross country ride with this bike.
The trail up was beautiful. The B.C. trees are in full bloom. Green, brown, and orange colors fill the vicinity. The climbing trail is perfect. The coolness from the night is still locked under the forest canopy. On my way up I pass a…
