Got that Retro Feeling. My Journey (up to the Great Console War) and Why you Need to Game with Your Kids

That Retro feeling is real alright. I have always had gaming in my life. I was born in 1979 in Mission. A small town about an hour East of Vancouver in British Columbia Canada. I didn’t have one of those childhoods full of anger and frustration. My parents were always amazing to myself and to my older sister. We didn’t have it all but we had what counts; love, happiness, a roof, and a great set of values that I hope I can emulate for my own family.

Through all the aspects that formed my early childhood one that always remained constant is my love for video games. I came by it honestly as my dad was always into gaming as well. That is where it all started. My dad was one of the best couch co-op partners I had growing up. He taught me the value of passing the controller over and enjoying the game as much as a spectator just as much as it is to play it myself.

Atari 2600. OMG the Atari 2600 was where it started for me. Pacman, that yellow big-mouthed cherry addicted ghost killer. Pitfall! Where do I even begin? Combat… the never-ending war. Oh and I am not ashamed to say that I enjoyed the confusing journey through the notorious E.T. but the be-all and end all for me was when we purchased California Games and the new controllers that had suction…
