No one likes to get hit, no one likes to get hurt, and for the most, no one likes to fight. It can happen. I will NOT say it WILL happen.
Karate is all about not having to fight at all.
The big question though is “Why teach karate if you’re going to tell me how not to use it”? Training karate and learning to fight are 2 entirely different worlds of martial arts and I have experience in both.
From a young age, I started training in Isshin-Ryu Karate. A fairly modern style compared to some. It is a practical approach to Martial Arts. I like to call it Martial Arts for everyone.
At a young age, I had a bully, and I mean young. I was about 9. It was the late 80’s and I was discovering the amazing genre of karate movies. Bruce Lee was lighting quick. Chuck Norris added the North American flair of familiarity. Steven Segal, yeah sure, I was young and didn’t know better. Jean-Claude Van Damme had emerged as a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood as well. The movies were almost magical to me. I became a Bruce Lee ultra fan wannabe copy cat.
This bully had harassed me for a while and I had no courage to deal with him. I would get kicked and punched from behind. Heckled and laughter at as well and that was worse than the physical stuff by far. Apparently, I had “victim” tattooed on my forehead back then.
